Kenya is a fantastic country to discover by self-drive, as it is filled with national parks, mountains, amazing wildlife and colourful tribes. Roads here are not in the best shape, but touring by campervan hire is perhaps the best way to really get a feel for this outstanding country.

Kenya is one of Africa’s most visited countries, although there are still many areas that are completely off the beaten track. Motorhome hire is a great way to explore the mountains, beaches, forests and national parks throughout the country, and there is a good selection of campervan sites at which to overnight along the way.

Is a scenic drive taking you to the Tobaka Soapstone quarries, Lake Victoria and Mount Elgon National Park. Along the way, there are a few places to rest such as Kisumu Lake Resort and Chorlim Campsite.

Starting in Nairobi along the A104, this drive takes you to Aberdare National Park, with a rest at Pilgrims Acres at Lake Nakuru recommended. Then head to the Mau Forest, the largest montane forest in Africa. Continue to Masai Mara National Reserve, the most popular reserve in the country. Stay overnight at Mara Chui Safari Camp before returning to Nairobi.

This drive takes you from Nairobi to Mombasa, passing through the country’s largest national park. See the fantastic wildlife and stay overnight at Cheetah Campsite. Head to Mombasa along the coastal road to Mtwapa Campsite before heading back to Nairobi.

A good road network serves the country, making it easy to self-drive here. A road map or GPS is recommended, as roads are rarely signposted. Petrol stations can be scarce so be sure to always fill up when you see one.
