Queenstown New Zealand Must See
For the RV adventurers, Queenstown is the perfect jumping off place.
Queenstown is located on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. This is a long and windy lake and the third largest in New Zealand. This freshwater lake was carved by a glacier and on all sides are mountains that encircle the lake.
On the northern end of the lake is the town of Glenorchy. This is a great drive to take and enjoy the Southern Alps of New Zealand. As with many locations in New Zealand, Glenorchy was in the movie Lord of the Rings.
For one of the best places to take pictures is the Devil Staircase. This road is located on the east side of the lake south of Queenstown. At the top is the best place to take pictures for some, but anywhere along the road between the lake and the mountains is spectacular.
Exploring the South:
from Queenstown, drive south along the shores of Lake Wakatipu to Invercargill, the country’s southernmost city. Here, visit beaches along the coast before heading north to Gore and driving through spectacular scenery to Alexandra. Stay overnight in the Lorneville Holiday Park and the Ettrick Camping Ground & Caravan Park.
Fjordland:
is one of the least-visited but most spectacular areas of the country. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Fjordland National Park, Lake Te Anau and the stunning Milford Sound. Rest in the Te Anau Top 10 Holiday Park and the Milford Sound Lodge.
West Coast drive:
runs along state highway 6, through the Mount Aspiring National Park, on to Haast Beach and through the Westland National Park. Visit the Thunder Creek Falls and go on scenic hikes while staying at Davis Flat. Witness the amazing Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers from the Glacier Country Motorhome Park, and visit the Pancake Rocks while resting at the Punakaiki Beach Camp.
