Discovering Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula
South of Anchorage in the USA state of Alaska is this magnificent peninsula that is famed for its glaciers, mountains, fishing villages and fjords and is one of the most visited areas in the state. A motorhome hire is a fantastic way to explore the peninsula and take in all of the stunning scenery on a journey that is rated one of the best drives in the country.
Anchorage is the starting point of this drive, and a great selection of campervans is available here. Vehicles on offer here are built strong to be able to combat the terrain and are all available through the well-known supplier Camper1. The more budget minded will enjoy taking in the scenery in the 20-foot class c-economy motorhome, while those looking for more space and comfort will feel right at home in the 35-foot Class A Sight Seer.
The drive is not long, though it is absolutely beautiful, driving along the Chugach Mountains and the Turnagain Arm where beluga whales can be spotted, and through the Chugach State Forest to the famous fishing village of Seward. Once here, partake in fishing, kayaking or biking, and don’t miss a tour around the Kenai Fjords National Park.
This geological wonderland is where ice caps and glaciers meet the Gulf of Alaska and is where the Harding Icefield is located. This is one of the country’s major ice caps and it spans across more than half of this massive park. Long fjords, which are home to a plethora of marine life, pass through the massive icefield. The topography in the Kenai Fjords National Park dates back to the ice age, though it is constantly changing. This deepens the fjords resulting in spectacular landscapes.
