Zadar Campervan Rental Attractions

The city is great to see on foot, but if you plan on not staying in a hotel, a motor home is the best option for this city tour. You can plan for your own day trip in Zadar to see the bustling city, its sights and sounds, and the in-between surprises you will discover while on the road.

Churches are common attractions in many European tourist destinations. There are 34 old churches scattered on the peninsula and they are very rich history. The oldest church is Sv. Šime (St. Simeon) which houses the silver reliquary of the saint and it is one of Zadar’s major tourist spots

St. Donat’s Church is one of the well-maintained pre-Romanesque buildings in the world. It is quite recognizable, and it has become the city’s symbol. It is no longer used for ceremonies, though, since it has been converted into a museum. During the summer, it holds a series of classical concerts.

Zadar Cathedral (Cathedral of St. Anastasia) is the city’s cathedral which houses a notable organ which was almost destroyed in the previous war.

Within St. Mary’s Church is a museum which is home to antique religious artefacts and relics.

The Arheološki Muzej (Archaeological Museum) is an interesting establishment which showcases stone carvings and has a collection that covers the prehistoric times to the Middle Ages.

The Roman Forum is a well-preserved area (ruins) and it is a common destination for residents to stroll and relax on a bright summer day.

The sound and light spectacle is among the city’s popular attractions. The Morske Orgulje (Sea Organ) is a man-made organ on Riva works which uses the motion of the waves and 35 pipes to create musical soundscapes. It was opened in 2005 and designed by Nikola Bašić (a local architect). The Pozdrav Sluncu (Sun Salutation) is a 22 meter circle made up of 300 multi-layered glass plates that produce light from the energy it collects during the day, and also designed by Nikola Bašić.

The oldest university in Croatia and one of the oldest in Europe is the University of Zadar. It was originally founded in 1396 by Dominican monks.

If you love the outdoors, a trip to the national parks is a must. Visit the stunning lakes and waterfalls of Plitvice and Krka National Parks. If you wish to go further north of Dalmatia, you can visit the historic village of Nin, the islands Vir and Pag, as well as the town of Novalja.

Swimming and sunbathing along the coast of Zadar should also be included in your itinerary. You can go to the popular beaches of Zolovare (close to the city centre), Borik (a huge hotel complex with lots of activities for recreation), and Vitrenjak (near the city’s sailing club and popular among families and groups).
