Western Mediterranean:
From Marseille to Perpignan, near the Spanish border on a beautiful drive along the coast. En route, see the Roman ruins in Arles, visit the Antigone neoclassic district in Montpellier and snap photos of the Canal du Midi in Béziers. On this drive, rest overnight at Camping Monplaisir and Camping La Nautique. Arlas is famous for it’s sight as well as for being in the middle of nowhere. However, don’t let that stop you from enjoying what it has to offer. Arles is truly one of a kind and will leave your jaw dropped! Here, you have a 1st of the 2nd-century Roman amphitheatre as well as great museums and a famous Saturday market. In Perpignan, you can stop and see the Cathedral of St Jean Baptiste, which was finished in the year 1509 after 100 years of being built. While in the city of Béziers, after visiting the canal, don’t forget to stop and see the infamous Saint Nazaire Cathedral, that has some of the best views of the Orb Valley in the region.
French Alps:
A scenic drive to Briançon, the highest town in Europe. Stay overnight in Campsite Les Olivettes to enjoy walks in the lovely town of Sisteron, enjoy the amazing mountain scenery from Campsite La Pierre de l’Aigle and see the 17th century fortifications in Briançon while staying at Camping 5 Vallees. The French Alps are infamous for a plethora of different things, the real question is: how much time do you have to do it all? One of the favourite things to do in the French Alps is to see Mont Blanc. Mont Blanc is the highest summit in Western Europe and with the proper training can actually be climbed! In fact, people do it every year. However, most people enjoy the view by Cable Car. If you head south of Mount Blanc, you’ll reach Vanoise. This small town is known as a gateway to many of the ski resorts in the area. One of the most famous cities in the Alps is actually Chambéry in France, most people who come here relax in the fresh air and enjoy the medieval quarter. If you love nature, the French Alps are not to be missed while on holiday!
Highway A7:
From Marseille to the historical city of Lyon. This beautiful drive through the Rhône Valley offers plenty to see, with numerous places to rest overnight. Recommended camping sites include Camping la Ferme des Roures, Campsite Les 4 Saisons and International Château de la Perouze. The city of Lyon is famous for being the third-largest city in the entire country of France. Lyon is a UNESCO site recognized as, “the archetype of the heritage city.” Here, you will see an abundance of different churches sprawled around a big hill which is actually named by the locals, “the hill that prays.” The 2000-year-old history of Lyon is worth spending a few days to enjoy while travelling down the A7. While on the A7, don’t forget to stop in Vénissieux to see some of the great monuments from World War 2.
