Wellington is the cultural and artistic centre of the country, as well as the capital city. It has long-been a tourist hot spot, and its position at the very southern tip of the North Island makes it an ideal location to start a self-driving tour in a touring van. Greater Wellington tour:

is an extremely scenic drive north through the Hutt Valley and south along the Kapiti Coast back to Wellington. Stop at the Korokoro Dam and the Kaitoke Regional Park, and drive along Akatarawa Road to Waikanae. Travel south along the coast to the beautiful beaches. Stay overnight in the Harcourt Holiday Park and the Kapiti Holiday Park.

The East Cape:

from Wellington, travel along state highway 2 to one of island’s most isolated areas, known for its rugged coastlines, fishing and strong Maori heritage. On the drive up to the Te Mata Peak, enjoy a wine tasting tour at the Te Awanga Point Holiday Park, and explore the beaches in the East Cape while staying at the Tokomaru Bay Holiday Park.

Bay of Plenty:

this tour takes visitors through the scenic interior, passing the Hutt Valley, the Manawatu Plain, the Taupo Volcanic Zone, the magnificent Lake Taupo and the hot springs at Rotorua.
