Best Campervan Rental Cape Town Trips
The Winelands:
Is a stunning drive through scenic landscapes such as vineyards, mountains and hills. Stop in famous vineyards in Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, and visit the surrounding nature reserves. Stay overnight in Berg River Resort or Mountain Breeze Camper Park. Little known, Paarl is actually one of the oldest towns in all of Cape Town. It is also famous for having one of the world’s largest rock outcrops! It is only 60 kilometers from Cape Town itself and easily reached via the N1 North. Stellenbosch is actually the most famous wine region in South Africa and is only around 50 kilometers from Cape Town. Don’t miss seeing the Cape Dutch architecture. When it comes to Franschhoek, take the Franschhoek Pass for a mountain view out of this food capital!
Cape Peninsula:
This is the most popular drive from Cape Town. Drive along the stunning Chapman’s Peak Drive from Hout Bay, explore Table Mountain, watch penguins at Boulders Beach and sunbath at Camps Bay. There are plenty of camper sites on the peninsula, including Outlands Park, Imhoff RV Park and many others. One of the things you must do while driving along the Cape Peninsula is to dive in False Bay. It is easily some of the best diving around! As mentioned earlier, Chapman’s Peak Drive is considered one of the most beautiful coastal drives in the entire world and is well worth a slow cruise – especially to see Hout Bay. Hout Bay is a wonderful small little area full of fishing boats and is quite relaxing! The water is a little cold here, and most people choose only to use a wetsuit when swimming or surfing. If you want something a little more upbeat, beaches in Clifton and Camps Bay may be what you are looking for since they are a little more touristy. Once again, you absolutely do not want to miss Table Mountain and the surrounding areas!
West Coast:
From Cape Town along the southwest coast to Lamberts Bay, passing through fields of flowers. Those with time on their hands can continue into Namiqueland or even Namibia. Rest at Yzerfontein Caravan Park, Saldana Holiday Resort or Malkopbaai camping van Park, among others. The West Coast is famous for having a desolate and empty coastline, but it should not be overlooked as it is actually quite stunningly beautiful. Along the way, you’ll pass towns like Langebaan. This is a great place for kitesurfing and oddly enough – a great place to see Fossils! Do so at the West Coast Fossil Park. If those aren’t your thing, how about stopping in Yzerfontein to see the mass amounts of beautiful flowers sprawled throughout the region? If you still want to see more things from the past, there are plenty of archaeological digs here as well.
