Along the way, most people choose to have a stop in the middle in the small town of Polanco. It is a very small little city but gives an authentic feel of not being in such a touristy part of Spain. Once you reach Santiller del Mar, you’ll love the medieval architecture that the city itself is quite famous for. You also have the Altamira Caves which are just out of town. Santander to Castro Urdiales:

Although it only takes around 45 minutes, this route is good for a day trip and the highlights include a Gothic church from the Middle Ages and a lighthouse.
